Mistral AI Secures €2 Billion Investment at $14 Billion Valuation, Solidifying Its Position as Europe’s Most Valuable Tech Startup
France-based artificial intelligence (AI) startup Mistral AI is reportedly nearing a €2 billion investment at a post-money valuation of $14 billion, making it one of Europe’s most valuable tech startups. Established by former researchers from DeepMind and Meta, the two-year-old company focuses on developing open-source language models and Le Chat, an AI chatbot tailored for European audiences.
While Mistral has remained silent on the matter, this investment would mark the startup’s first significant funding round since its valuation of €5.8 billion in June 2024. Prominent investors such as Andreessen Horowitz and General Catalyst have previously backed the company with over €1 billion.
The recent funding surge for European AI startups is noteworthy, with Q1 2025 seeing a 55% increase in year-on-year investment, according to Dealroom. Additionally, 12 European startups reached unicorn status within the first half of the year. Another standout in this growth is Sweden’s Lovable, an AI coding platform that secured a $1.8 billion valuation in July, eight months after its launch.
