Google Introduces Veo 3 to Google Photos: Transform Stills into High-Quality Video Clips
Google’s advanced video generation model, Veo 3, is set to integrate with Google Photos. This new feature will be accessible through the Create tab on the mobile app, enabling users within the United States to convert their static images into short video clips.
Google Photos currently offers video creation via its newly introduced “Photo to video” feature, but the integration of Veo 3 is expected to significantly enhance the quality of these videos. The rollout underscores Google’s commitment to bringing its cutting-edge AI technology to consumers through products like Google Photos, which boasted over 1.5 billion monthly active users as of May 2025.
Unveiled at its I/O developer conference in May, Veo 3 was first introduced on the Gemini app in July, available on its AI Ultra and AI Pro subscription plans. These subscribers were able to generate three video clips daily, each carrying both visible and invisible watermarks to distinguish them as AI-generated content.
In Google Photos, users can expect to breathe life into their memories or animate older photos with Veo 3. The existing image-to-video feature, driven by Veo 2, allows users to select a photo from their gallery and choose between “subtle movements” or a surprise animation by tapping the “I’m feeling lucky” button. The model then generates a six-second clip that can be shared with others.
With Veo 3, the feature will remain free, although it will offer limited video generations. Premium subscribers, however, will have access to more generations. While Veo 3 videos won’t support audio and will only last four seconds, they are set to be available within the Create hub – a new section in the Google Photos app featuring creative tools and AI-powered features such as a remix option for photo styling, collage creation, montage assembly, the generation of moving 3D photos called “cinematic” photos, and a tool to create GIFs from pictures.
