BlackRock Announces £500m Investment in UK Data Centers for AI Revolution Ahead of Trump’s Visit
Leading asset manager BlackRock is set to invest £500 million ($679 million) into the UK’s data center infrastructure, coinciding with US President Donald Trump’s state visit to Britain. This move marks a strategic expansion for the global giant, which manages over $12.5 trillion in assets worldwide.
In partnership with Digital Gravity Partners, BlackRock will acquire and modernize existing data centers nationwide. Digital Gravity Partners specializes in digital infrastructure investments, with a focus on data centers that host the servers powering various digital services such as Netflix streams and AI applications like ChatGPT.
This investment forms part of a wider bilateral agreement between London and Washington, aiming to underscore the robustness of transatlantic economic ties. The critical nature of these data centers in supporting the AI revolution is evident, given their significant energy consumption required to run the numerous processors for machine learning (ML).
