eBay Acquires Tise: Modernizing Marketplace for Gen Z and Millennial Shoppers while Embracing Sustainability
eCommerce giant eBay has revealed plans to acquire Norwegian social marketplace Tise, specializing in second-hand fashion and home decor items. The financial particulars of the transaction remain undisclosed.
In a press statement, eBay expressed optimism about gaining access to a Gen Z and millennial customer base through Tise’s platform. The company also highlighted Tise’s unique community features, such as following sellers, interacting with listings through likes and comments, and receiving personalized product recommendations, which will augment eBay’s consumer-to-consumer (C2C) experience.
Tise received its first investment from an unnamed venture capital firm in 2022.
Oliver Klinck, VP, GM Global Markets Success & C2C at eBay, stated, “This acquisition will accelerate Tise’s strategic development and unlock fresh avenues for innovation. With Tise’s trendy inventory, dedicated community, and social-centric approach, we aim to bolster our C2C offerings and deepen connections with the next wave of enthusiasts.”
The move suggests that eBay is seeking to revitalize its platform by appealing to younger shoppers, enhancing its social commerce tools, and strengthening its presence in the sustainable retail sector.
The transaction is anticipated to conclude by the end of the fourth quarter in 2025, subject to customary conditions.
Eirik Frøyland Rime, CEO and co-founder of Tise, commented, “At Tise, we’ve long believed that making resale enjoyable, effortless, and inspiring is crucial for a more sustainable world. Our new partner shares our vision, and with their support, we will amplify our community-driven model, enabling more individuals to join the social marketplace.”
Launched in 2014, Tise has reportedly raised $45 million in funding, according to market intelligence platform Tracxn.
