Goodnotes Unveils AI-Powered Features for Professionals: Introduces Collaborative Whiteboard, Document Creation, and AI Assistant

Notetaking app Goodnotes expands its offerings to cater to professional users with the launch of new features, including a collaborative whiteboard tool, document creation capabilities, and an AI-driven content assistant. The AI-powered assistant can work across various input methods such as handwriting, typing, sketches, and voice. It is designed to summarize meetings, create visuals like charts and diagrams, proofread text, and provide templates for documents and note-taking.

The development of the Goodnotes AI was bolstered by the acquisition of a South Korean startup specializing in meeting and video summaries last year. The new features leverage technology from this acquisition.

In addition to AI, Goodnotes introduces a whiteboard feature that allows users to collaborate on a shared canvas using text and diagrams. Users can also create documents with text, images, GIFs, and tables within the app.

Goodnotes is not the only productivity platform integrating document creation into its service. Platforms like Grammarly and Canva are encouraging users to produce more content within their respective apps, creating a richer context for AI assistance.

Steven Chen, GoodNotes founder, stated during a call that while there remains a substantial student user base, the goal is to extend the product’s utility beyond educational settings and into professional circles. Text documents are popular in offices, especially among frequent typists, while a whiteboard offers an effective collaboration tool with various input methods. Going forward, GoodNotes aims to become a comprehensive notetaking app suitable for every scenario and device.

Goodnotes is debuting two new pricing plans: Goodnotes Essentials and Goodnotes Pro. The Essentials plan costs $11.99 per year and includes access to new file formats, AI for question-answering, and math. The Pro plan costs $35.99 annually, providing integration with Google Calendar and OneDrive, private link sharing and collaboration, a desktop AI bot for meeting recording and transcription, and AI-powered content suggestions.

There are limitations to the amount of AI usage, even on the Pro plan. To access unlimited AI credits, users can purchase an AI pass for $10 per month. Goodnotes continues to offer a one-time purchase option for Apple device users priced at $35.99 but without cloud sync or cross-platform support.

Goodnotes was first launched as an iPad app in 2011 and has since expanded its compatibility to iOS, Android, and Windows. The startup boasts over 25 million monthly active users, up from 21 million in 2023.
