OpenAI Unveils Plans for Five New AI Data Centers Across US with Partners Oracle & SoftBank – A $100 Billion Investment from Nvidia
Tech giant OpenAI unveiled plans on Tuesday to construct five new AI data centers in the United States, partnering with Oracle and SoftBank for the project under its Stargate initiative. The new facilities will boost Stargate’s projected energy output to a significant seven gigawatts – sufficient power for over five million households.
Three of these new locations are being developed in collaboration with Oracle, with sites in Shackelford County, Texas; Doña Ana County, New Mexico; and an unspecified Midwestern region. The remaining two sites will be built alongside SoftBank, with one in Lordstown, Ohio and the other in Milam County, Texas.
The expansion of Stargate AI data centers forms part of OpenAI’s extensive infrastructure development, as the company seeks to enhance its capabilities in training and delivering more potent AI models. On Monday, OpenAI disclosed it would receive a $100 billion investment from Nvidia for the procurement of AI processors and further expansion of AI data centers.
