TruSources Revolutionizes Age Verification with On-Device Technology for Enhanced Privacy and Security

In the digital age, identity verification processes have become ubiquitous online, often involving the submission of government-issued IDs and selfies to access websites or purchase specific goods. The increasing implementation of age verification laws in various regions like the US, UK, Australia, and beyond has further spawned an industry specializing in ID checks for “adult” content platforms.

However, concerns regarding privacy and security persist as these sensitive details are uploaded to company servers, potentially leading to monetization, loss, or breaches. A promising solution to these challenges is offered by a new startup named TruSources, which plans to demonstrate its innovative age verification and identity checking technology at an upcoming event in 2025.

Sanjay Krishnamurthy, the founder and CTO of TruSources, previously worked on WhatsApp’s core encryption engine. Recognizing the vulnerabilities in existing systems, he developed a deepfake detection app and a “know your customer” (KYC) app capable of verifying user identity within seconds, all while keeping sensitive information confined to their devices.

When users authenticate with TruSources, no personal data is sent to servers, unlike most age and identity checking companies. Instead, the technology employs a custom machine learning model integrated into its apps, which identifies patterns from an extensive dataset developed for detecting deepfakes and counterfeit IDs on the device itself.

TruSources’ technology can be seamlessly integrated with various apps and websites complying with age verification regulations, as well as corporate single-sign-on services for employee access to multiple work applications. Additionally, the technology generates a QR code suitable for real-world scenarios such as age proof for bar entry without requiring physical identity documents.

By adopting TruSources’ technology, companies can ensure compliance with KYC regulations while avoiding the collection of users’ government-issued identity documents and preserving their privacy. Krishnamurthy notes that many countries require apps to verify user age but struggle with handling IDs from various origins due to legal complexities.

Although TruSources is still in its formative stages, it stands out as one of the few startups addressing identity checks and age verification without compromising privacy or security.
