Trump Calls for Firing of Microsoft’s Lisa Monaco Over Security Concerns and Ties to Obama and Biden Administrations
Microsoft is facing pressure from former President Donald Trump to dismiss Lisa Monaco, the tech giant’s president of global affairs. Trump took to Truth Social on Friday to voice his concerns about Monaco’s employment, citing her previous roles as a senior National Security advisor under Barack Obama and a deputy attorney general under Joe Biden, as well as her alleged association with Attorney General Merrick Garland.
Trump expressed concern that Monaco’s current role grants her access to highly sensitive information, which he deemed unacceptable. He wrote, “It is my opinion that Microsoft should immediately terminate the employment of Lisa Monaco.”
Monaco joined Microsoft in May, taking on a role overseeing the company’s cybersecurity policy and its relationship with world governments. However, her previous roles working alongside both Barack Obama and Joe Biden have raised questions, particularly given Trump’s recent decision to rescind Monaco’s security clearance, along with those of Biden, Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton, and the Biden family.
A Microsoft spokesperson declined to comment on the matter. However, far-right activist and Trump ally Laura Loomer has been vocal in her criticism of Microsoft for hiring Monaco. In a series of posts on X, she accused CEO Satya Nadella of disgraceful behavior and called for the cancellation of all Microsoft’s government contracts.
This is not the first time Trump has targeted a tech executive since returning to office. Previously, he called for Intel President Lip-Bu Tan to resign over alleged conflicts of interest. Following Intel’s decision to accept a 10% stake from the government in exchange for funding already committed by the Biden administration, Trump later described Tan as a “Highly Respected Chief Executive Officer.”
