Dozen NY Elected Officials Arrested Protesting Overcrowded, Unsanitary Immigration Detention Conditions

Over a dozen New York state and city elected officials were arrested at various locations yesterday, including the Manhattan immigration court, Federal Plaza, and an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office. The arrests occurred as the officials attempted to gain access to the 10th-floor detention facility at Federal Plaza, where recent court rulings, such as a temporary restraining order, had prohibited ICE from housing immigrants in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions.
